Improving the survival rate of plantation drives

Rainy season is the best season for the plantation, but we can grow plants in almost all seasons to keep the earth green. Tree planting is typical an annual event during rainy seasons. It is an opportunity to do noble –social – environment work and get photographed for news items. Once, the drive ends the plants are left at the mercy of abiotic and biotic stresses.

This article gives simple methodology to reduce the mortality of sampling from the beginning and effective use of organic waste, even if someone lacks experience in maintaining tree saplings.

Research shows that if soil contains 50% organic material such as dead wood, grass, leaves, branches and other decaying natural material, it is a perfect recipe for growing plants without much human intervention. Using this fact, we can increase the survival rate of plants saplings, especially when the plant drives are conducted in urban areas.

Secondly, the following law of nature can drastically improve the chances of survival and growth. At mass level we should plant the native species of the areas. Finding about the native species of trees and plants is no rocket science. Find places that have old tress growing since your grandfather times. These place are usually temples and old religious places . Many old government building and housing areas will also have old tree surviving. Identify communities working in this domain and refer to books and even painting that have trees.

Third, using organic garbage and green bio-mass as bio-fertilizer also improves the rate of survival. It does not cost much. And the drive can be conducted even without using “gobar” or any other commercial fertilizer for mass planting to reduce the overall cost.

Fourth, goal setting: Do you want garden in your home or home in the garden. It depends on the way you think. Do you want your home part of the nature or otherwise? In-fact countries like Singapore have gone one step further. They have implemented and envisioned a city in a garder, sorry a city in a forest. A city made of Portland cement but enclosed, engrossed and wrapped up with green cover.

Procedure :

Step 1: Dig a hemisphere or cubiodical shaped hole at the place you want to plant the tree. The hemisphere must have diameter of 2 - 3 feet. In case, you are planting tree sapling in a container, try to get a container that has diameter and height as bigh as 3 feet.

Step 2: Add a woodly layer (collection of broken stems, branches of trees, brown leaves, semi-hard twigs and other decaying wood material) first at the bottom of the hemisphere. The wood material will help the plant with the Carbon Cycle.

Step 3: Add a green layer (collection of green leaves, green stem parts and other decaying green material) in the second layer. The green material will help the plant with the Nitrogen Cycle. Organic waste such fruit and vegetable peels makes excellent choice as organic material.

Step 4: Add additional mineral nutrients in case you have budget such as wood ash (100 grams), crushed lime stone (100 grams) and rock salt (10 grams) mixture.

Step 5: Add additional live bacteria and fungi inoculations in case you have budget. You may add things such as jaggery, yeast, lactic acid, mycrorizal fungi, actinomycetes etc. Some of these are available naturally in cow dung, goat dung, pig dung, camel, horse and other animal natural waste.

Step 6: Now, plant the tree sapling and cover it with green / brown mulch layer. Water the tree sapling and finally mulch for maintaining moisture in the soil for longer period.

Today, the problem is not that the people are not aware of the root cause of pollution, erratic climate, dust storms but lack of will power to overcome these challenges. Some are waiting for technological innovation to save them from climate fury, some are waiting for some politicians to do something for cause of climate and some others are just waiting for NGO to do some miracle to change the situation, as if we do not have time for plantation. We live in a world that is common, a common resource and let us not forget planting tree can save the world and no technology or politicians can

Vedic Plaster (FAQ)

In this article, I shall try to address the most frequently asked questions (FAQ)  on “ Vedic Plaster ”, a  product manufactured and sold by Dr Shiv Dharshan Malik . I got introduced to product “ Vedic Plaster ” some two years ago when I saw it’s the application at Bhopal, Sehatvan. I recently also made a trip to his Dr Shiv Dharshan Malik’s place Rohtak . Hence, based on my knowledge, experience and feedback from others I will try to remove confusion from the minds of people about it. Vedic Plaster Office  What is Vedic Plaster? It is a mixture of cow dung, mud, lime and other ingredients that inhibit the growth of bacteria/fungi. The purpose of this mixture is to act as a wall plaster, not necessarily as mortar mixture. Can Vedic plaster be used for Bathroom floor and wall?  Yes, it can be used for the walls of the bathroom but, it will not be prefered as a bathroom floor plaster.  This plaster can provide a smooth surface and it can handle water in the lon

Data Interpretation : Understanding OLS Regression Results and Outcomes

Data Interpretation Understanding OLS Regression Results & Outcomes Puneet Arora  These days Regression as a statistical method is undervalued and many are unable to find time under the clutter of machine & deep learning algorithms. But, everyone knows that “ Regression “ is the base on which the Artificial Intelligence is built on. In this article, we will learn to interpret the result os OLS regression method. In this method, the OLS method helps to find relationships between the various interacting variables. The mathematical relationship is found by minimizing the sum of squares between the actual/observed values and predicted values.  But before, we can do an analysis of the data, the data needs to be collected. There are primarily two ways by which we can obtain data for regression: Primary source and Secondary source. In the primary source, we directly collect data from the source (Original) for example by getting some survey form filled and in

Vegetable to Grow in North India in April 2020

Vegetables to Grow in North India in April 2020 In this article, information on vegetables that can be grown in the month of April 2020 , North India   The figure [1]  gives a simple design of the garden also.  The design of the vegetable garden is based on four (Light, Height, size, companion planting) factors ., assuming that you have a  small area of 12 feet X 10 feet.  The location of the wall(s )  and the source of water can be observed from the diagram and you can correlate with walls at your home. The conditions of the light are also shown.      Figure 1: Vegetable to Grow in North India in April  What to grow in April 2020 : You can grow all kinds of gourds such a sponge, bitter etc. You may grow tomato, okra or ladyfinger , eggplant or brinjal, yam, cowpea, capsicum/peppers.  Mint or Pudina needs a lot of water, plant it near the water source. Other than this, you may sow chilli seeds and start preparing a bed for sowing

Types of Kitchen Waste for a Gardner

PodCasts: " Garbage Production is a Sign of Development  ".  But is it Good or Bad contribution to GDP    Once you are able to organize the waste, then making it more is not that annoying, but if the waste is spread around you, then trouble is in front, and you think a hundred times before adding it further. The solution is ... Use pick up the van and throw it far-off the municipality dumps it in a nearby village (Now a Garbage Dump). Some developed and clever countries dump it in other countries, some burn it in the air, some dump it in the seas and oceans. If real cleanliness is required then the production of waste will have to be reduced, the consumption will have to be reduced, the rest is eye-wash. But no one wants to do it because it reduces GDP, reduces the pace of development. Actually waste is development, but, it appears that development is the process of converting natural resources into waste. In these three episodes of PodCasts ( S1E5, S1E6, S1E7

Overcoming Barriers to Roof Top Raise Bed Gardening

One of the biggest barriers to Roof Top Gardening is “Weight”. .Yes, I'm not talking about your Weight … Many people get discouraged by the fact the weight of the Pots and Potting mixture. As it normally so  high that it is hard to carry and construct Raise Beds on rooftops or in upper floors of the building. In-fact , I have been feeling the same challenge , that is why I had to resorted to Plastic Buckets and Containers. It's okay to use Plastic for growing your own food. But , alternatives to plastic must also be considered and put into practice. Move  over , we should think about overcoming the limitations of growing plastic buckets. A  raised bed with  potting mixture is better for growing veggies as compared to the plastic containers. This is because a raised bed would store more volume of soil  and will have a better mico-ecosystem as compared to the ecosystem of plastic containers. They allow us to have better drainage and the
